YouTube.  Hardly a trend,  more like a worldwide phenomenon.

The furore currently surrounding content on YouTube and the censorship, copyright and royalties issues that surround it are enough to write a book – that changes every day -  but one thing is for sure – YouTube isn’t going anywhere except onwards and upwards.  (View the mind-boggling growth and History of YouTube.)

Despite all the music download services, legal and illegal, out there, YouTube has usurped them all in the UK. But it’s not all about kids and music videos.

Corporate organisations all over the world have been making use of the many benefits of using YouTube to help raise awareness of their offering, while utilising the hosting, streaming and embedding of video offered by the YouTube platform instead of worrying about it themselves.

You could host video on your own site, or you could host it on YouTube and embed it in your site, and enjoy the following benefits:

YouTube worries about hosting, bandwidth traffic, and other technical stuff
LOADS more people will be likely to see it there than on your own site
It can drive traffic to your site, from people who find the video first
Because of the self-perpetuating popularity cycle on YouTube, the more people watch it, the more popular it will become
It can raise awareness of your business
Other people might link to it or embed it on their site, improving your search ranking and driving traffic to your site

YouTube is, of course, not the only video hosting service on the web, with Vimeo, EngageMedia and Blip.tv also being favourites for web-based video broadcast.
