Cleaning of our offices is something that is usually done when we’re not there, and something you don’t really think about (apart from if it hasn’t been done!). Most companies recycle their paper and cardboard, and choose more environmental friendly purchases in terms of paper (recycled, FSC etc), stationary, and washing up liquid – things that we can see around us. But since we don’t really ‘see’ the cleaning, it’s easy to forget how important it is. Cleaning products are giant pollution offenders, as well as creating toxins in our work environment and causing allergies. But, alternatives are easy to come by and don’t have to cost any more.
‘Green’ cleaning companies are more and more common and easy to find – there is probably one in your area. (Or you can always just ask your current cleaner to ditch the chemicals and use more environmental friendly products.) Our new cleaning company only uses eco friendly cleaning products (e.g. a white vinegar and water solution for cleaning kitchen and surfaces – a well-known, green anti-bacterial method), biodegradable bin liners and recycled kitchen and toilet paper, of course. Their pricing is very competitive, and we now feel good keeping our office clean while still maintaining green and ethical values. Everyone’s a winner!
