Who wouldn’t jump at the opportunity of buying a brand new bike tax free to get to work on – avoiding traffic jams, saving money, reducing your carbon footprint and getting fit at the same time? We at VGroup surely did! This excellent initiative is part of the government’s Green Transport Plan scheme, which offers a tax-free purchase of bicycles through your employer. Employers can sign up to the scheme and apply for their tax free bike packages using a secure voucher. The voucher is made out to a value of up to £1,000 and can be used for bike and equipment purchase, redeemable through a network of independent bike shops nationwide. The bike buyer (or more correct ‘leaser’ until the bike has been paid off) must be in full-time employment, and the cost of the bike is deducted from their wages split over the following twelve months.
Many of the team at VGroup now ride to work, and not just to and from work, but up and down the hills around East Sussex as well! Getting our bikes has been a fun, exiting and team building experience, sparking a never ending flow of bike stories and bike talk in the office. Who knows, next year you might be able to spot a group of black VGroup t-shirts riding the 2009 London-Brighton Bike Race … For more information on the Cycle Scheme, visit www.cyclescheme.co.uk
