Whilst walking around Brighton I noticed that the dark green telephone junction boxes which usually are the perfect blank canvasses for graffiti are now painted over with brightly coloured retro music cassette designs using a stencil style template. They sit with the vinyl records and VHS tape era for those youngsters who do not know what a music cassette is!

We are used to seeing graffiti in the form or tagging and multi coloured scribble. The Cassette Lord, a local artist has set up an initiative working with local youngsters within the Brighton and Hove area to help inspire and find their artistic talents and discourage graffiti taggers in the town. As well as music cassette tapes you can also see ghetto blasters and DJ mixing decks.

You can also see the work from the famous British street artist Banksy in and around Brighton, who also made his name with his trademark stencil-style ‘guerilla’ art in public spaces. Outside Brighton station you will find ‘Kissing Coppers’ and the Rat Rapper on the basket ball court on Brighton sea front.

When you are next in Brighton why not see how many you can spot?

I thought this was a fantastic idea for blank canvases and for the youth to be involved. I hope to do a book which i am hoping to build in photographs of these cassette tapes, ghetto blasters etc.

Great work! it is worth it.
