Beer. It’s a man thing. But women make up 25% of the beer market despite beer marketing being very male oriented. Carlsberg are the first to positively change the way they are marketing beer, not just with ads, or design, but with a whole new product.

Despite the digital revolution, it seems there is still a place for big and bold physical graphics. In situ in towns and cities around the world advertisers are still looking at innovative ways of using billboards and large scale outdoor graphics to maximum effect. They are a powerful tool – A commuter for example would see the same billboard everyday for the lifespan of a campaign, and of course it would also be seen by the stream of passers by.

With some of the latest world disasters in mind, it is nice to see design and creativity playing a part in helping to raise funds and awareness towards the aid in rebuilding the countries and helping the people affected. Obviously with Japan freshest in or thoughts, designs for posters and T-shirts are beginning to emerge.

The web is ever evolving and so it’s our job as designers to evolve with it. Web-fonts have been a revelation in this respect – when it comes to maintaining a brand’s integrity online the possibilities have really opened up.

Social networking, when and where did it all begin I wonder? I learnt recently that it goes way beyond the introduction of sites like Facebook which as you know started only a few years ago – although it does feel as though social networking has been around for much longer – or is that just me? Infact you have to go back further than 2004…
